I lost my keys while going on a run. I called Top Atlanta Locksmith LLC and the tech was fast, efficient, and professional. Oh and reasonably priced. I scoured the web for quotes and they were the lowest in price.

Car Ignition Switch Issues

The car ignition system contributes to the smooth running of any car. Located normally in the column of the steering wheel and used to kick-start the engine cycle can drive a vehicle in forward or reverse direction. There are quite a number of ignition problems that can affect the smooth running of a car, negatively. At Top Atlanta Locksmith we specialize in dealing with these common issues.

Ignition Switch Refuse to Turn When Key is Inserted

You may want to jiggle the steering wheel in a back and forth motion when this problem arises. The steering wheel may not function when one of the front wheels has been turned at an angle against the curb, leading to an extra load on steering linkage that can bind the ignition switch and column lock.

If you confirmed that the issue is that of a binding switch, you can apply of a non-conductive lubricant such as dielectric silicon grease or aerosol electronics cleaner. Do not apply any other oil that may shorten electrical contacts with the ignition switch.

Broken Key Inside Ignition Switch

If broken key inside the ignition is the problem, please contact us at Top Atlanta Locksmith to extract the key and perform a key duplication service for you. If your car relies on a smart key, then you will need a new programmed key to operate your car.

Defects Related to the Manufacturer

Defective parts can also cause ignition switch issues. You might be lucky if the car is still under warranty and the manufacturer will replace faulty components, otherwise, you will need a certified locksmith to fix this problem. You need to be wary of car brands with factory-related ignition switch issues, especially when you are about to purchase a car.

Worn-out or Jammed Up Wafers

Keys are prone to wear and tear just like any other vehicle component, this will make the key to become ineffective and stop working on the long run. If a spare key doesn’t work in this situation then the problem is the ignition switch. If the spare key works, you need to contact a certified locksmith to get a spare key as soon as possible.

Transponder Key Wouldn’t Communicate with the PCM

When the malfunctioning light indicator comes up, it means the computer chip in the programmed key is not functioning. In this case, you may have to reprogram the existing key or reproduce the existing program on a new key. You need to contact an experience automobile locksmith to handle this type of ignition issue.

Key Wouldn’t Come out of Switch When Engine is Turned Off

A binding issue in the steering lock column can cause the key not to come out of ignition after switching off the engine. Try and joggle the steering wheel back and forth until you are able to click into the locked position. If the problem persists then, damage to the column locking system might be the issue. Please contact us at Top Atlanta Locksmith for any automobile ignition repair you are facing.
