Garage Door Tips

Your garage is useful in so many ways. DIY projects, storage space and playground area for the kids are some of the ways we use our garage but they are prone to a number of security challenges, and the door needs to be upgraded. The garage door remains is the heaviest moving object, and its malfunction can cause injuries or give way for intruders to access your home. In order to ensure that your garage door continues to work efficiently, you need to conduct some regular checks and maintenance to reduce the risks of injuries in your home. You may want to consult Top Atlanta Locksmith for a professional check on your garage door.

Conduct a visual inspection

You need to check for signs of wear and damage to your garage when you stand close to it. You need to pay attention to the door cables, pulleys, rollers, and springs and then check the mounting hardware. Pay attention to any fraying signs on the cables. Check if the mounting hardware is showing signs of loosening, and consult a professional technician once you notice any sign of damage. You don’t have to wait until someone is injured before you contact Top Atlanta Locksmith

Conduct a Photo-eye test

Make sure your garage door is opened before conducting a photo eye test. Push that wall button or transmitter near the garage door, and then wave a long object such as a broomstick in front of the photo-eye of the garage door. Doing this will simply break the beam, making the door to reverse. If your garage door does not reopen or reverse simply pull the broomstick or another long object out, in order to allow the door to close. Wipe the photo-eyes of the door with a clean cloth once the door is closed and adjust the photo-eye if it has been misaligned. You can open the garage door once again and perform the test for the second time. If this test doesn’t work the second time, please contact Top Atlanta Locksmith.

Conduct the reverse mechanism test

This test must be conducted when the garage door is opened, fully. Simply lay a piece of wood on the floor (a 2 x 4 is enough), place this wood at the center of the opening of the garage door- this is the region where the garage door touches the floor. Push the transmitter or the wall button and your garage door should reverse once it comes in contact with the wood piece If the garage door does not reverse, simply contact a professional locksmith technician.

Conduct a door balance test

You need to ensure that a garage door that relies on an automatic opener is checked at least once a month. all you must do is to close the garage door and then disconnect it from its automatic opener – you should conveniently lift the door manually once disconnected. If the door lifts smoothly then it is working efficiently, if not, you need to contact Top Atlanta Locksmith for help.
