I lost my keys while going on a run. I called Top Atlanta Locksmith LLC and the tech was fast, efficient, and professional. Oh and reasonably priced. I scoured the web for quotes and they were the lowest in price.

The Most Vulnerable Areas for Home Invasions

The FBI has reported a home burglary occurs every 13 seconds in the United States. Many of these invasions occur during daylight hours when the owners are away at work and school, which means their chances of being caught are severely reduced if video surveillance isn’t installed. In less than a minute, most thieves can rob a home of thousands of dollars in valuable jewelry, cash and electronics. Most home owners want to do whatever is in their power to prevent such a financially devastating and potentially dangerous event from happening to them. At Top Atlanta Locksmith, we help residents, business owners and drivers in Atlanta, Acworth, Canton, Lawrenceville, Kennesaw, Lilburn, Norcross and other surrounding Metro area communities improve their home security with our quality services. Over the years, we’ve learned a lot about which areas are the home are most often targeted and can offer some advice on potential prevention techniques.  Security Lock Installation Atlanta

Front Door

The number one entry point for home break ins is the front door. Most homeowners still have the minimum standard pin and tumbler locks that were installed by the contractor or previous occupants. Traditional locks like these are extremely easy for criminals to bypass with basic lock picking skills. In our current internet age, any thief can get a free education on how to use lock picking tools and bump keys. In just a few seconds, these burglars can have your front door open with zero signs of forced entry, often making it difficult to file insurance claims for lost property. Thankfully, this issue can be solved by installing quality high security locks. While a determined thief could potentially attempt to break down the door itself, installing heavy duty deadbolts, pick and bump resistant cylinder locks or keyless entry locks and door reinforcements can go a long way. Most thieves will be immediately deterred from breaking into your home and will likely move on to an easier target down the road.

Front and Side Windows

Windows are the second most frequently used access point for criminals. During warmer months, homeowners often leave a window partially open or forget to lock them when they leave the house. Old, worn out windows are easy to shatter as well. Install quality window locks that are visible from the outside and replace old windows with new models that have shatter resistant glass. It’s also a good idea to move your fence line closer to the front of the home if possible. If the burglar must jump over a high fence to get to a side window, they might be less likely to target this area.

Back Door

A lot of people forget to lock their back door when leaving the house and criminals are very aware of it. If they can’t get through the front door, they may try to hop the fence and break through the back. A homeowner might invest the highest quality locks for their front door, but neglect to do the same for the back. French doors and sliding doors can also create more risk as the panels can be shattered out of sight from neighbors or traffic. If you choose to use glass doors, make sure they are shatter resistant. And, use the same high quality locks on all exterior doors, not just the front entrance.

Garage

Many people remember to lock their front and back door, but completely forget about the entry door from the garage. Some wrongly assume that the garage door itself offers enough protection. While many savvy property owners have quality garage door locks and high security remote systems installed, there are a great number that don’t. Some garage doors can easily be pulled up manually, and older remote systems can be hacked for the code. Be sure to take extra precautions by fully securing your garage door and installing high security locks on the door that leads into your home.
