I lost my keys while going on a run. I called Top Atlanta Locksmith LLC and the tech was fast, efficient, and professional. Oh and reasonably priced. I scoured the web for quotes and they were the lowest in price.

Remote Car Key Guide

The remote car key can be described as a compact remote car entry device which is programmed to operate a car for which it is programmed for. The remote control comes with push buttons for locking, unlocking, and to release the boot. The remote key works with a software that works with the data of a particular car and without the vehicle data, it can be extremely difficult to set a new remote key for a car especially when the original remote entry system is damaged or lost.

How does the car remote key works?

The remote car key does come with a transmitter that has short-range transmission system. In most cases, the remote car key only works when it is within 5-20 meters to the car. When a button on the remote car key is pushed, it will send a coded signal via the radio waves, to the receiver unit inside the car and depend on the button you push, the door of the car will be locked or unlocked.

Features of the remote car key

A remote car key may look very similar to the transponder key, but the difference is found in the type of key fob within. Most people are unsure of whether they are using remote car key or transponder until there is a need for repair or replacement, for this reason, you may want to contact Top Atlanta Locksmith, to be sure you are making use of a remote car key and not a transponder system.

A car remote key usually comes with two levels of security, the first being the ability to lock and unlock your car physically through the blade of the remote car key, and the second security level is the ability to lock and unlock your car through a radio frequency signal – this is activated with the push of a button on the remote key. You need to know that that the radio frequency on your remote control must be tailored to your car- you need a reputable locksmith such as Top Atlanta Locksmith, to handle this for you. With the push of a button, you can activate your car’s alarm system and even roll up the windows of your car.

How to be sure you have a car remote key and not a transponder

There are three basic ways you can tell whether you have a remote key or a transponder car key;

  • Simply contact a locksmith, such as Top Atlanta Locksmith, to open the fob and help you confirm if it is a remote car key. This is perhaps the simplest way to confirm if you are using a car key remote.
  • Make inquiries from your car manufacturer or dealership- This option may take a while because you have to provide as much information as you can. The car dealership may ask you to visit them in person in order to provide this information.
  • You can wrap the fob of the key with an aluminum foil and use the fob to start your car- if it is a transponder key, it wouldn’t start. This method is not recommended.
