I lost my keys while going on a run. I called Top Atlanta Locksmith LLC and the tech was fast, efficient, and professional. Oh and reasonably priced. I scoured the web for quotes and they were the lowest in price.

Should You Get a Tubular Lock?

Tubular locks are used much less than conventional pin and tumbler locks, yet many choose to install them over more traditional varieties. You may have seen the strange circular locks on a variety of doors and devices including pay phones, ATM’s, gun cases and more. Should you get a tubular lock installation for your home or business? At Top Atlanta Locksmith, we help provide residential, commercial and automotive lock and key services in Atlanta, Suwanee, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, Roswell and other metro area communities. We enjoy helping our local neighborhoods stay protected from thieves and criminals, and we want you to be able to make the best choices for the safety of your personal property and cherished loved ones. Here is some more information about tubular locks and what they can do for you.

Tubular Locks vs. Traditional Pin and Tumblers

Tubular locks function very similarly to the class pin and tumbler locks you would find in billions of door across the US. The difference lies in its configuration. It utilizes a circular shape with six to eight pins that are pushed horizontally rather than vertically. Therefore, opening a tubular lock requires a specialized circular ring that can properly push the pins back against the spring. Though tubular locks can be picked by professionally trained locksmiths and lock pickers, it is far less likely that a regular, everyday criminal would be able to bypass the locks. Because tubular locks require more specialized (and expensive) lock picking equipment, most thieves either won’t be well informed or as motivated to break into a door, cabinet, safe or case that utilizes tubular locks over regular minimum standard pin and tumblers. Therefore, these locks can be a great alternative for items that are often unattended and placed in highly trafficked areas, like ATM’s, pay phones and vending machines. They can also be utilized as an extra layer of security for valuables or items that need to be in a controlled environment, such as a gun safe or medicine cabinet. Though the cost of tubular locks and keys are more than normal locks, it may be well worth the expense if it means protecting vital assets.
